Job summary

Judd Wire, Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is seeking an Entry Level Machine Spark Operator for the 3rd shift at our Turners Falls, MA facility. You will perform sparking, measuring, testing, and re-spooling tasks, with on‑the‑job training from day one.

The role requires readiness to work a flexible schedule and cross-train on other machines. Starting pay ranges from $19.28 to $22.91 per hour, plus a $3.00 per hour 3rd shift differential.

Entry Level Machine Spark Operator – 3rd shift

Judd Wire Inc., a Sumitomo Electric Group company, is looking for a 3rd shift Entry Level Machine Operator – Sparker in our Turners Falls, MA manufacturing facility. Individuals will be responsible for a variety of duties including: performing required operations connected with measuring, inspecting, testing and re‑spooling wire and cable in preparation for shipping or its next operation. Targeted job training is provided for all skill levels starting on day 1 and throughout your career at Judd Wire.

Hiring Range: $19.28‑$22.91/hour, plus $3.00/hour 3rd shift differential.

Job Duties

• Work from factory orders, special customer requirements and verbal instructions to evaluate and meet specifications with regard to conductor size, amount of insulation over diameter, sparking voltage, type of repairs allowed (if any), number of pieces per reel, type of reel for put‑up, sparking sequence, number of conductors, multiple lengths, and amount of order.
• Set up wire or cable on sparking machine, select proper counter eyes, apply prescribed sparking voltage, maintain proper traverse while operating machine at fastest allowable speed; set up voltage tester, test wire and small cables at prescribed voltage, and check continuity tester to ensure there are no breaks or shorts.
• Visually examine and inspect wire/cables as they are pulled through the machine to detect sparking (defects). Identify areas of defective insulation and cut out defective pieces.
• Use a micrometer to check conductor for proper size, check appearance of insulation and centering of copper wire in the insulation; tag reel in accordance with specifications and direct to next operation.
• Detect and report any unusual conditions, defective materials or other malfunctions.
• Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and proper condition; observe safety regulations.
• Show willingness to cross‑train on other machines throughout the plant.
• Work a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ordinary arithmetic, including decimals and fractions, and simple use of specification together with adjustable measuring instruments.
• Be a team player, enjoy detailed work, and be willing to learn.

Physical Qualifications

• Position requires moderate physical effort consisting of frequent moving, average weights, lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, etc.
• Long periods of standing.
• Continuous mental and visual attention to repetitive work, requiring constant alertness or activity.
• Work conditions may expose employee to noise, fumes, dust, hot and cold temperatures, etc.
