The School

Broome Street Academy (BSA) is New York City’s only charter high school that is both a transfer school and a fully embedded community school in partnership with The Door. We serve over‑age, under‑credited students from across the five boroughs, many of whom have experienced housing instability, interrupted formal education, or significant personal challenges. Our students do not need lowered expectations. They need rigorous instruction, consistency, and adults who believe in their ability to succeed. BSA is currently in an active turnaround phase focused on strengthening attendance, academic rigor, and Regents performance. We are building systems that are coherent, urgent, and measurable and we are looking for teachers who are ready to do meaningful work in that environment.

The Role

BSA seeks high school teachers who are student‑first, data‑driven, and committed to rigorous instruction. Teachers at BSA are not passive deliverers of curriculum. They are instructional leaders in their classrooms, responsible for driving measurable academic growth and preparing students for Regents exams, graduation, and meaningful postsecondary pathways.

  • Drive Measurable Student Growth
    • Use data to inform instruction and adjust strategies.
    • Track student progress consistently and intervene early when students fall behind.
    • Maintain accurate and timely gradebooks and attendance records.
    • Support credit accumulation and on‑time graduation.
  • Build Strong Classroom Culture
    • Establish consistent routines and high behavioral expectations.
    • Foster a classroom environment rooted in dignity, structure, and academic seriousness.
    • Build authentic relationships with students and contribute to increased student engagement and attendance.
  • Collaborate & Contribute
    • Work closely with DCIs, Special Education staff, ENL teachers, and social workers.
