Job Description and Requirements

Salary Range: $52,278 - $101,991, DOE; PLUS employer-paid retirement, and generous benefits package

Days: 192 days per year

Hours: 40 hours per week

Overview: The position of "Teacher" performs under the supervision of a principal or other designated supervisor and has responsibility for the instruction and supervision of students. Teachers facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills. The instruction of students shall include individual skill development, expansion of knowledge, and development of the ability to reason. Supervision of students shall include guidance, development, and safety. The classroom teacher functions in accordance with District approved curriculum, policies, rules, regulations, and the performance standards of the District/State and the performance goals established for the teacher. The teacher addresses specific educational needs of students by providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. The teacher maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students. Parkrose expects teachers to be aware of and maintain "The competent educator standards" found in the Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR 584-020-0010).

Job Requirements:

  • A valid Oregon teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement from the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) is required upon hiring. It is the employee's responsibility to maintain their license and acquire the necessary credits to renew.
  • Ability to prepare effectively for class
  • Ability to develop and communicate appropriate grading standards to students
  • Maintain positive interpersonal relationships
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum framework, education code, and appropriate instructional subjects

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students to improve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study
  • Use State and District adopted curriculum and goals
  • Identify the needs of students and provide continuous assessment of their abilities
  • Motivate students and communicate effectively with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Promote high levels of achievement based on individual student abilities
  • Employ appropriate teaching strategies and methodologies
  • Organize instruction with clear learning objectives and student outcomes
  • Assess student progress and provide timely feedback and documentation to students, parents, and staff
  • Develop and maintain an environment conducive to effective student learning
  • Develop classroom behavior rules and communicate them clearly
  • Enforce rules and communicate course goals and expectations
  • Ensure health and safety of students in all instructional settings
  • Supervise students both in and out of the classroom and report incidents for safety and policy adherence

Other Job Functions:

  • Supervise educational assistants, volunteers, and aides
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Participate in district-sponsored training and meetings
  • Assist other teachers in curriculum implementation

License, Certifications, and Testing:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance from the Oregon Department of Education (costs apply)
  • First Aid / CPR / AED certification or ability to obtain
