Job summary

Advocate Health seeks an experienced healthcare interpreter to provide language access services at Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem, NC. The role includes in-person, telephone, and video interpreting, plus basic written translation when needed.

Candidates should be bilingual in Spanish and English and meet training/certification requirements. Requirements include a high school diploma, 1 year related healthcare experience, and preferred national medical interpreter certification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 1 year related experience in healthcare settings preferred.
• National medical interpreter certification preferred.
• 40-hour Medical Interpretation Training completed within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Respond to requests for language access in healthcare settings including in-person, telephone, and video interpreting.
• Use technology to deliver services across modalities and troubleshoot basic software issues.
• Maintain relationships with internal customers and manage interpreter modalities to contain costs.
• Interpret patient information accurately, including education, appointments and discharge instructions.
• Educate caregivers about cultural considerations and act as a cultural broker.
• Adhere to professional conduct standards and national practice standards.
• Translate basic written information as needed.
• Serve as cultural mediator and educate customers appropriately.
