Qualifications

• Excellent oral and written command of both languages including healthcare terminology.
• Proficient in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation with high accuracy.
• Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
• Interpersonal communication skills to work in a team and independently.
• Certification of completion from a 40-hr Professional Medical Interpreter course.
• If lacking, eligible with other qualifications (e.g., other interpreter cert, translation degree, or 2 years experience) and complete 40-hr course within six months.

Responsibilities

• Interpret medical and general information with accuracy in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation for patients, families, and staff.
• Interpret complex medical information with knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare system.
• Act as cultural mediator with intercultural communication and unbiased interpretation.
• Adhere to ethics and standards, HIPAA, Civil Rights Act, ADA, and ACA.
• Manage time; provide ETA for interpretation assignments; refer staff to phone or video interpretation per guidelines.
• Use computer, software and electronic tools for research, data entry and communication; maintain records; ensure data consistency.
• Translate written material into one or more languages with meaning and localization; complete assignments timely and accurately.
