Qualifications

• Bilingual in English and Spanish with strong interpretation skills.
• One year of healthcare interpreting experience.
• Basic anatomy/physiology terms in English and Spanish.
• Third language ability (Russian or Haitian Creole) preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform medical interpretation between clinicians and patients in face-to-face or telephonic encounters.
• Act as liaison between patients and staff; inform clinicians about cultural considerations for Spanish-speaking patients.
• Interpreter for ancillary departments and non-clinical staff interactions as needed.
• Assist with training staff interpreters and coordinating interpreters.
• Orient patients to hospital facilities and services; may conduct on-call coverage evenings/weekends/holidays.
