Job summary

Qualifications

• Must have completed accredited medical interpreter training.

• Bilingual with fluency in English and at least one other language.

• Experience in health or human services is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Translate between languages accurately to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and patient families.
• Clarify non-literal translations and provide cultural framing to prevent misunderstandings.
• Explain the role of a Medical Interpreter to patients, families and providers to ensure smooth cooperation.
• Document interpreter services thoroughly and coordinate with other agencies as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold the Medical Interpreter Code of Ethics.
