Job summary

Nationwide-Children seeks a full-time Medical Interpreter in Columbus, OH to bridge communication between healthcare providers and patients with limited English proficiency. You will translate accurately and provide cultural context for clear understanding of medical instructions.

The role requires accredited interpreter training, CHI/CMI certification within 12 months of hire, bilingual fluency, and health/human services experience. Benefits eligible, Mon-Fri 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.

Qualifications

• Bilingual; Fluency in foreign language and English required.
• Experience interpreting in health or human service organizations required.
• Two years of college education preferred.
• Completed accredited medical interpreter training required.
• Formal interpreter training required.
• Certification within 12 months of hire preferred or required (CHI/CMI).

Responsibilities

• Translates accurately between languages to facilitate communication between providers and patient families.
• Clarifies non-literal translations and provides cultural framing to prevent misunderstandings.
• Explains the role of a Medical Interpreter to patients, families, and providers.
• Maintains confidentiality and adheres to the Medical Interpreter Code of Ethics.
• Completes documentation of interpreter services and coordinates with other agencies as needed.
• Pursues professional development and adheres to organizational policies.
