Responsibilities

• MOS: Science for upper grades; design hands-on, inquiry-based units and differentiate instruction.
• Communicate positively, manage behavior, and provide coverage as needed.
• Participate in PD, weekly check-ins, and regular guidance meetings.

SPANISH & SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR

WHO WE ARE

The Morgan Oliver School (MOS) is a small, progressive K-8 independent school in Atlanta, and Morgan's Early Care Connection (MECC) is our BFTS-licensed early care program serving infants through pre-K. Together, we're a Reggio Emilia- and Montessori-influenced, restorative, anti-racist learning community. We're small by design — small enough that every adult in the building knows every child by name, and every child feels genuinely seen.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a unique, split-campus role for an educator who loves language immersion with our youngest learners just as much as guiding older students through hands-on science inquiry. You'll spend part of your time at MECC cultivating a joyful, developmentally appropriate Spanish immersion environment for children ages 2-4, part of your time teaching Spanish to MOS students in 2nd grade and up, and part of your time teaching science to our upper-grade students. It's a wide range — and we're looking for someone who finds that range energizing, not overwhelming.

WHAT YOU'LL DO — MECC: LANGUAGE IMMERSION

• Provide daily Spanish exposure through games, songs, storytelling, and classroom routines
• Engage in organic conversational play during transitions, meals, and activities
• Collaborate with lead teachers to weave Spanish into each classroom's daily flow
• Use visual aids, labeled materials, and environmental print to support language acquisition
• Work directly with children during morning welcome and whole-group time for consistent exposure
• Rotate through classrooms so every child gets daily Spanish exposure
• Meet weekly with lead teachers (or their designee) to co-plan language integration

WHAT YOU'LL DO — MOS: SPANISH (GRADES 2 AND UP)

• Upload the year-long plan for the course before the first day of school
• Upload lesson plans in advance, by the end of day Thursday for the following week
• Create dynamic, engaging classes addressing multiple learning modalities, including Total Physical Response (TPR)
• Differentiate instruction based on each child's individual skill level
• Complete Spanish proficiency progress reports in DreamClass quarterly, including before each set of parent conferences

WHAT YOU'LL DO — MOS: SCIENCE (UPPER GRADES)

• Design and deliver hands-on, inquiry-based science instruction for our upper-grade students
• Upload a year-long science curriculum plan before the first day of school, and weekly lesson plans in advance
• Plan units that work across a mixed-age classroom without duplicating content year over year
• Differentiate instruction based on each student's skill level and prior exposure
• Complete science progress reports in DreamClass on the same quarterly schedule as Spanish reporting

COMMUNICATION, BEHAVIOR & COVERAGE

• Use positive language framing with all students; give clear guidance on expected actions rather than generalizing about a child's ability or behavior
• Follow the school's protocol for handling disruptive or challenging classroom behavior, and inform classroom teachers when filing an incident report
• Provide lunch coverage or additional shift coverage as assigned

PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION & SUPPORT

• Attend all PD sessions, staff meetings, and trainings — full attendance required during scheduled PD week
• Weekly check-ins with the Pedagogista and/or Head of School for the first 60 days
• Maintain open communication with school leadership on student progress
• Go to the Middle School Director for guidance, coaching, or support on instructional questions, with regular check-ins to discuss teaching goals based on observations

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Fluency in Spanish and comfort teaching across a wide age range — from 2-year-olds through middle-school-aged students
• A genuine interest in science education and hands-on, inquiry-based instruction for older students
• Experience with early childhood language immersion, ideally in a play-based setting
• Comfort with ambiguity and range — this role asks someone to hold two very different subjects and several age groups at once
• Alignment with our anti-racist, restorative approach to education
• High presence, enthusiasm, and engagement; a collaborative spirit and flexibility in supporting both campuses' missions

QUALIFICATIONS

• Native or professional fluency in Spanish
