Job summary

Childpeace Montessori School in Portland is seeking a Spanish Teacher for the Elementary Program, starting August 2026. This is a part‑time, 20‑hour per week position, with a schedule of Monday through Friday 8am–12pm and occasional meetings outside these hours.

The role focuses on delivering engaging Spanish instruction that fosters curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning, while supporting students’ academic and social‑emotional development.

Qualifications

  • BA in Spanish or related field required.
  • MA in Spanish or related field and/or relevant teaching experience preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of successful Spanish teaching experience at the elementary level.
  • Proficiency with technology tools and communication platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver effective Spanish lessons for Elementary‑aged children, following a schedule that aligns with the children's morning Work Cycle.
  • Develop culturally responsive and developmentally appropriate relationships with students.
  • Adapt lessons to meet a range of learning needs.
  • Foster a positive classroom culture that reflects identity‑aware teaching and respect for diversity.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with families about student progress and learning.
  • Collaborate with the Elementary team and Metro Middle School Spanish Teacher to foster a collegial staff culture and ensure continuity of the Spanish program across levels.
  • Uphold professional expectations for conduct, communication, and confidentiality.
  • Model and participate in maintaining a clean, organized learning environment.
  • Contribute to program‑wide goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Report to and participate in evaluation by Program Directors.

Spanish Teacher – Elementary Program

Part‑Time (20 hours/week)

Schedule: Week days, 8am - 12pm with occasional meetings outside these hours

Start Date: August 2026

Childpeace Montessori School is seeking a Spanish Teacher to join our Elementary Program beginning in August 2026.

This is a part‑time, hourly position (20 hours per week), Monday - Friday 8am - 12pm. Occasional evening and weekend commitments may be required.

The Spanish Teacher supports the academic and social‑emotional development of Elementary‑aged children through the creation and delivery of engaging, developmentally appropriate Spanish instruction that fosters curiosity, confidence, and a love of learning. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator and collaborator who builds positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families. This individual is also committed to ongoing professional growth and aligns with Childpeace’s mission and values.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Education and Experience Requirements
  • BA in Spanish or a related field required
  • MA in Spanish or related field and/or relevant teaching experience preferred
  • Minimum of two years of successful Spanish teaching experience at the elementary level
  • Comprehensive approach to language instruction, including grammar, listening, speaking, and cultural literacy
  • Experience in student‑centered, project‑based, or Montessori education preferred
  • Proficiency with technology tools and communication platforms
  • Native Spanish speaker preferred
  • Must pass a background check and be eligible to work in the U.S.
Certifications and Trainings (provided by the School)
  • Food Handler Card
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect
  • 24 hours of documented professional development each school year
