Summary:

Functions as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team. Maintains a professional, therapeutic, and helpful attitude. Provides emotional support to families in crisis. Offers Spanish translation and interpretation for all aspects of emergency care.

Education:

• Associates degree required.
• At least two years of experience in a direct patient care setting preferred.
• Proficiency in English and a secondary language, with a focus on Spanish.
• Familiarity with medical terminology is an asset.
• Previous interpretation/translation experience is preferred.
• Spanish interpreters/translators must meet proficiency levels defined by Cook Children's Health Care System, measured by recognized oral, reading, and writing tests. All applicants are tested prior to employment and must meet the minimum proficiency level. Testing is administered by a contracted service. Post-employment, proficiency levels are verified annually.

Certification/Licensure:

• Heart saver Courses provided by the American Heart Association are required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained per Medical Center Policy, MC 175.
