Job summary

ICA Language Services is seeking an experienced Spanish language instructor to provide in-person instruction at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) in Monterey, California.

Assignment runs 10/26/2026–1/15/2027 with a 7:45 a.m.–4:45 p.m. schedule. Requires a Bachelor's or Master’s in a related field and at least two years of intensive adult language teaching, plus DLPT/OPI familiarity and government-language experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a foreign language, linguistics, or related field.
• Minimum two years teaching adults in an intensive setting.
• Experience teaching post-DLPT or similar advanced-level language programs.
• Experience teaching U.S. military or government language learners.
• OPI: Spanish ILR 4 or ACTFL Superior; English ILR 2 or ACTFL Advanced Low.
• Familiar with DLPT, OPI, and other government assessments.
• Working knowledge of ILR/ACTFL proficiency scales.
• Experience using Teams/Zoom/Webex in teaching.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Spanish post-DLPT/GRIT language courses using various instructional methodologies to improve listening, reading, and speaking.
• Develop instructional materials and collaborate with the team to support program delivery.
• Administer weekly quizzes, assessments, and evaluations to monitor progress.
• Provide mid-course written progress reports and coordinate with supervisors to address needs.
• Integrate instructional technology and online resources to support independent learning.
• Adapt instruction to meet individual learner needs and mission requirements.
• Perform related instructional and administrative duties.

This position supports advanced-level government language training for post-DLPT/GRIT learners.

Job Details

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.
• Pay Rate: $30.00 per hour
• Note: travel, lodging, and per diem are provided for instructors not residing in Monterey, CA

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver Spanish post-DLPT/GRIT (Graduate Readiness Intensive Training) language courses using a variety of effective instructional methodologies to improve students' listening, reading, and speaking proficiency.
• Develop instructional materials and collaborate with instructional team members to support effective program delivery.
• Administer weekly quizzes, assessments, and other evaluations to monitor learner progress.
• Provide mid-course written progress reports and coordinate with supervisory staff to address instructional needs.
• Integrate instructional technology and online learning resources to support independent learning.
• Adapt instruction to meet individual learner needs, learning styles, and mission-related language requirements.
• Perform related instructional and administrative duties in support of the program.
• Assign homework tailored to the students’ needs and designed to reinforce daily learning.
• Provide exposure to appropriate skill development, idiom, and variant.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a foreign language, linguistics, or a related field
• Minimum of two years of full-time experience teaching adult language learners in an intensive setting (4-6 hours a day)
• Experience teaching post-DLPT or similar advanced-level language programs
• Experience teaching U.S. military or government language learners
• OPI minimum requirements:
  • Spanish: ILR Level 4 or ACTFL Superior
  • English: ILR Level 2 or ACTFL Advanced Low
• Familiarity with DLPT, OPI, and other government-administered language assessments
• Working knowledge of ILR and/or ACTFL proficiency scales
• Experience integrating instructional technology into language teaching and assessment
• Experience using online platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Webex in teaching

Security & Access

Employment is contingent upon the candidate’s ability to obtain and maintain access to a U.S. military installation. This includes a government security investigation, identity verification, and compliance with installation security policies. A security clearance is not required for this position.
