Qualifications

• GED or HiSET is required.
• Within 18 months of hire, must obtain the highest level of national certification for the language pair as a healthcare/medical interpreter from a national organization providing testing, and fulfill continuing education units to maintain it.
• National certification as a medical/health care interpreter is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide fluid consecutive or simultaneous verbal interpretation between LEP patients/families and English-speaking providers and other patient care team members.
• Spot/sight translate brief passages (up to 3 paragraphs) and forward documents for translation.
• Document interpreting encounters in electronic medical records and other systems with at least 80% accuracy.
• Function as a team member within the health system and with Interpreter and Translation Services; manage availability and respond to requests within 5 minutes.
• Attend Interpreter & Translation Services staff meetings and pursue ongoing training and certification.
