Job summary

JPS Health Network is seeking an Interpreter I (Spanish) for Patient Experience to facilitate language access for LEP patients. This PRN role supports services during nights and weekends, ensuring accurate interpretation and cultural mediation across clinical encounters at John Peter Smith Hospital.

The position requires a High School diploma, 2+ years of customer service with interpretation experience, and successful completion of the Language Services competency test (90%+).

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• 2+ years customer service experience with oral interpretation experience, preferably in a medical environment.
• Must successfully pass the Language Services Department competency test with score of 90% or greater.
• Associates degree preferred (optional).

Responsibilities

• Interacts effectively with peers, medical staff, patients and their family members in a manner that promotes patient-centered care.
• Serves as a cultural and linguistic resource to promote patient safety and satisfaction.
• Assists LEP patients with linguistic, safety, medication, and systemic concerns; refer concerns to appropriate resource when needed.
• Interprets information accurately, preserving tone and meaning without adding or omitting content.
• Coordinates interpreter assignments and logs encounters in the Epic system.
