Job summary

NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, seeks a Mechatronics Engineer within the Mechanical Engineering, Integration, and Test Section to design, analyze, integrate, and test flight mechanical and robotic systems for spacecraft.

You will develop mechanisms, actuators, sensors, and electronics for current and future missions; translate requirements into hardware concepts and drive design through I&T; collaborate across teams and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 3+ years of related experience, or MS/PhD.
  • Experience with spacecraft mechatronics development and mechanical hardware design, fabrication, integration, and test.
  • Ability translate requirements into electro-mechanical hardware configurations.
  • Experience with task planning, schedules and delivery commitments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanisms, materials, and electronics for current and future JPL missions.
  • Support mechanical hardware development and I&T activities for payloads and spacecraft across all mission phases.
  • Perform design and analysis, create engineering documentation, and deliver hardware for spaceflight missions.
  • Ensure delivered products meet all technical requirements and programmatic commitments.
  • Contribute to cost and schedule estimation and implementation planning.
  • Support and present at team, line management, and subsystem reviews.
  • Provide technical guidance to support engineers, designers, and analysts.
  • Mentor junior technical team members.
