Job summary

JPL/NASA in Pasadena, CA, seeks a Mechanical Engineer III to support the Manufacturing, Packaging & Test Services Section. You will design, develop, fabricate, assemble, integrate, and test space flight electronics, microelectronics, and ground support equipment.

The role requires broad knowledge of mechanical systems, CAD modeling, and hardware manufacturing processes, with opportunities to lead design teams and participate in design reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Proficient with CAD tools such as NX or SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
• Experience in mechanical and electronic packaging design, including PCBs, chassis, manufacturing processes, and cable harness assembly.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with product delivery leads, technical leads, proposal managers, and project management.
• Lead design teams to develop space flight and ground support electronic hardware and subsystems.
• Create 3D CAD models, drawings, layouts, and design studies using NX or comparable tools.
• Revise designs for manufacturability, structural integrity, performance, and standards compliance.
• Interface with packaging and manufacturing engineers, designers, analysts, machinists, QA, and project staff.
• Plan and produce work instructions for fabrication and assembly of electronic packaging and mechanical assemblies.
