Job summary

Vast is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Avionics (New Grad) in Long Beach, CA to design, build, and test avionics systems for the Haven Station program. You will collaborate with electrical engineering to package rugged PCBs, and perform analyses to ensure reliability in harsh space environments.

The role requires a BS in engineering or related field, plus hands-on design experience and familiarity with CAD/FEA tools.

Qualifications

• B.S. in mechanical, aerospace, civil engineering, physics, mathematics, or related technical field.
• Coursework, project, or internship experience designing mechanical components or systems.
• Familiarity with 3D CAD and FEA software through coursework, student projects or internships.
• Understanding GD&T fundamentals (ASME Y14.5).

Responsibilities

• Design avionics enclosures, mounts, and brackets for components with guidance from senior engineers.
• Package rugged printed circuit board assemblies with electrical engineering team.
• Perform thermal and structural analyses for harsh environments.
• Create engineering drawings and maintain design documentation.
• Contribute to trade studies and write interface/spec documents.
• Plan and run tests, collect data, and support flight hardware qualification.
• Verify requirements through test, analysis, inspection, or demonstration.
• Work with technicians to build, assemble, and install hardware on the space station.
