Job summary

Vast, based in Long Beach, California, seeks a Mechanical Engineer, Avionics to design, build, and test the systems behind our human-rated space stations. This full-time, exempt role collaborates with electrical and mechanical teams to ensure high reliability in harsh environments and successful integration of avionics components.

We require a BS degree and 2+ years in mechanical design, plus strong skills in 3D CAD, FEA, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field listed (mechanical/aerospace/civil engineering, physics, math).
• 2+ years designing and developing mechanical components or systems.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and FEA software packages.
• Experience implementing and analyzing GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

Responsibilities

• Own the design of avionics enclosures and mounting solutions for high reliability in harsh environments.
• Collaborate with electrical engineering to design rugged PCB assemblies and layout considerations.
• Perform thermal and structural analyses to drive design decisions.
• Lead trade studies and own interface definitions and ICDs for hardware.
• Design integration brackets and installation approaches for avionics on the space station.
• Create and release engineering drawings and manage product configuration.
• Develop test plans and lead testing/qualification of flight hardware.
