Job summary

Vast is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Structures (New Grad) in Long Beach, CA to help design, build, and test the systems behind our human-rated space stations. You will apply CAD/FEA knowledge, analyze loads, and contribute to trade studies with guidance from senior engineers.

Expect hands-on collaboration with fabricators and technicians on the floor, develop manufacturing drawings, and support test plans while advancing innovative space infrastructure for upcoming Haven modules.

Qualifications

• B.S. in mechanical, aerospace, civil engineering, physics, mathematics, or related field.
• Coursework, project, or internship experience designing and developing mechanical components or systems.
• Familiarity with 3D CAD and FEA software through coursework, student projects, or internships.
• Understanding of GD&T fundamentals (ASME Y14.5).

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze primary and secondary structures and components for a large-scale space station.
• Apply understanding of static and dynamic loads, vibration, thermal and other environments to evaluate designs.
• Create CAD models and manufacturing drawings; help develop test plans and operations concepts.
• Contribute to trade studies and define interfaces with other subsystems.
• Work hands-on with fabricators and technicians to build, assemble and test hardware.
