Job summary

Muon Space is seeking an Environmental Test Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in San Jose, CA. You will assist with planning, executing, and analyzing environmental tests for spacecraft hardware, gaining hands-on experience in a fast-growing startup environment.

You'll work alongside engineers to prepare hardware, run test procedures, collect data, and troubleshoot issues, contributing to successful spacecraft integration and launches.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field related to aerospace engineering.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals across mechanics, thermal, dynamics, instrumentation, or electrical systems.
• Interest in spacecraft environmental testing and hardware development.
• Experience with programming or scripting for data analysis or test automation (Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Julia, or C++).
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work hands-on with engineering hardware and test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning, preparation, and execution of spacecraft environmental tests (thermal vacuum, vibration, acoustic).
• Support test setup and instrumentation such as thermocouples, accelerometers, pressure sensors.
• Prepare hardware, fixtures, and test configurations for test campaigns.
• Execute functional checkout and procedures under supervision before/during/after tests.
• Monitor operations, identify anomalies, and assist with root-cause investigations.
• Collect and preliminarily analyze environmental test data to verify performance and requirements.
• Contribute to development/optimization of test procedures, checklists, and lab workflows.
• Assist with configuring and operating test equipment and data acquisition systems.
• Support automation/scripts to improve test setup, monitoring, data collection, and analysis.
• Generate test documentation, data summaries, and reports under guidance.
• Assist with handling of spacecraft hardware in cleanroom and lab facilities.
• Maintain a safe, organized, flight-hardware-ready test environment.
