Job summary

Muon Space invites ambitious engineering students to join its Environmental Test Engineering Intern team in San Jose, CA. You will assist in planning, preparing, and executing spacecraft environmental tests, collecting data, and supporting test automation and procedures.

The role offers direct mentorship and real impact on Muon's programs, in a fast-growing startup environment. You'll work with experienced engineers and technicians on thermal vacuum, vibration, and acoustic tests, gaining

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in mechanics, thermal systems, dynamics, instrumentation or electrical systems.
  • Interest in spacecraft environmental testing or hardware development.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Julia, or C++ for data analysis/test automation.
  • Strong problem-solving and first-principles thinking.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Hands-on with engineering hardware and test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, preparation, and execution of spacecraft environmental testing.
  • Support test setup, instrumentation, and data acquisition for tests.
  • Prepare hardware, fixtures, and ground support equipment for campaigns.
  • Execute functional checkouts and procedures under supervision.
  • Monitor operations, identify anomalies, and aid root-cause investigations.
  • Collect and preliminarily analyze environmental test data.
  • Help improve test procedures, checklists, and workflows.
  • Assist with configuration and operation of test equipment and data systems.
  • Support automation and scripting for setup, monitoring, and data analysis.
  • Generate test documentation, data summaries, and reports.
  • Support integration and handling of spacecraft hardware in cleanrooms and labs.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, flight-hardware-ready environment.
