Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and release ground support equipment (GSE) and tooling for the Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn programs. You’ll work with design teams to solve complex manufacturing challenges and ensure safe and reliable rocket hardware delivery.

As part of the Operations group, you will influence cradle-to-grave tooling performance, applying DFx principles, ASME Y14.5 standards, and robust hands-on fabrication knowledge in a high-stakes aerospace

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years in tooling, fixtures, and custom machines design for manufacturing.
• Experience with FEM and structural analysis; ability to perform hand calculations.
• Proficient CAD design and drafting for production.
• DFM and DFA expertise; take products from development to production.
• Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance/stack-up analysis.
• Experience with CNC machining, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, inspection.

Responsibilities

• Design tooling and equipment for Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn units.
• Integrate mechanical design concepts across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Interpret and apply ASME Y14.5 drafting standards for drawings.
• Address tooling challenges across fixtures, material handlers, test fixtures, weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
• Collaborate with component designers and manufacturing engineers to optimize cradle-to-grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, delivery).
• Manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, installation, testing, and commissioning of tooling.
• Set schedules and budgets to ensure timely project completion.
