Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a mechanical engineer to support R&D programs and production contracts, focusing on structural and thermal analysis of space hardware. You will lead analysis, CAD design, and test activities within a cross-disciplinary team.

The candidate will work on packaging electronics subsystems and opto-mechanical mechanisms, requiring hands-on assembly and strong documentation skills, while complying with ITAR/EAR regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering required.
• 5 years' mechanical engineering experience in space systems or related fields.
• Structural and thermal analysis including FEA and thermal conduction.
• Design using CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
• Tolerance analysis and GD&T practices.
• Space hardware design, integration, and test.
• Strong technical writing for engineering docs (reports, specs).
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering design and analysis support to diverse R&D programs and small-volume production contracts.
• Lead the structural and thermal analysis of mechanical systems for space and airborne hardware.
• Work within a multi-disciplined project team.
• Responsible for mechanical design and analysis activity, and support integration and formal acceptance-test activities.
• Projects range from packaging high-reliability electronics subsystems to opto-mechanical mechanisms like gimbals and steering mirrors.
• Other duties as assigned
