University of Alabama at Birmingham's Engineering & Innovative Technology Development (EITD) group seeks a mid-career Research Engineer to develop viable system requirements, track verification, and provide support for flight operations on space payloads.

The role includes creating and supervising detailed system engineering documents and data analyses, reviewing documentation for quality, and collaborating with engineers across disciplines to deliver high-reliability integrated systems.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with five years of related experience.
Work experience may not substitute for education requirement.
Ability to use engineering and documentation software, MS Word, and Excel.

Responsibilities

Typically performs multiple engineering-related tasks in various assignments within the organization.
Oversees the development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.
Has broad knowledge of engineering and quality procedures and assists in the resolution of complex problems.
May guide and train less experienced engineers.
Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.
Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.
Support meetings, teleconferences, and travel as required by projects.
May be required to work nights and weekends, as necessary, to support real-time flight operations.
Travel to support testing and launch/return activities for approx. 7-day periods, 5‑10 trips per year possible.
