Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking an entry-level RESEARCH ENGINEER I (SYSTEMS ENGINEER) to support flight operations for space applications within the EITD group. You will help develop system-level documents and assist with testing of complex hardware.

The role focuses on supporting ground and microgravity research instrumentation, with duties ranging from design tasks to documentation and coordination for launch activities; onsite schedule and travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and one year of related experience required.
  • STEM-related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems.
  • Supports meetings, teleconferences, and travel as required by projects.
  • Travel to support testing and launch/return activities.
  • Reports to EITD Systems Engineering Section Lead.
  • Performs simple and routine engineering design tasks with standard techniques.
  • Assists more senior engineers in the preparation of plans, data analysis, and reports.
  • May work nights and weekends to support real time flight operations and travel for testing as needed.
