Job summary

Vast is seeking a Mechanical Engineer, Structures, to design and test the systems behind our human-rated space stations. You will own primary and secondary structures from concept to flight hardware, applying loads, vibration, and thermal analyses to ensure robust design.

The role requires 2+ years’ experience in mechanical design, proficiency in 3D CAD/FEA, and familiarity with NX, Teamcenter, and GD&T per ASME Y14.5. On-site in Long Beach, CA with competitive compensation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum: B.S. in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
• 2+ years of experience designing and developing mechanical components or systems.
• Experience with 3D CAD and FEA software and GD&T per ASME Y14.5.

Responsibilities

• Own the design of primary and secondary structures for a large-scale space station, from concept through flight hardware.
• Apply knowledge of static and dynamic loads, vibration, thermal, and other environments to drive design decisions and margins.
• Perform mechanical design and analysis, release drawings, test plans, and concepts of operations for hardware.
• Lead trade studies and own interfaces and interface control documents with other subsystems.
• Verify requirements through test, analysis, inspection, or demonstration; lead structural testing and qualification.
• Follow hardware through fabrication, assembly, and test with fabricators and technicians to improve designs.
