Job summary

Astranis Space Technologies is seeking a Radiation Effects Engineer focused on modeling to define spacecraft radiation and charging environments. You will guide hardware, mechanical, and systems teams in GEO design constraints to navigate space environments safely.

You will develop analytical models, run Monte Carlo simulations, and create Python-based pipelines to process transport data, delivering actionable recommendations for shielding, grounding, and material selection.

Qualifications

• BS degree in a relevant engineering/physics field.
• Experience with radiation environment tools and transport codes (OMERE/SPENVIS; FASTRAD/Geant4/MCNP).
• Strong theory in radiation interaction with matter and charging physics.

Responsibilities

• Own analytical model of GEO radiation environment (AP8/AP9, AE8/AE9, solar proton fluences, GCR).
• Run high-fidelity 3D Monte Carlo simulations against CAD assemblies to generate dose curves.
• Lead studies on spacecraft charging to prevent ESD risks in dielectrics.
• Develop Python pipelines to process, analyze, and visualize transport datasets.
• Translate simulation data into engineering guidance for shielding and grounding architectures.
