Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) invites applications for an NSRL staff member to join the Space Radiation Laboratory team. The role supports preparation and execution of experiments, monitors beam operations, and collaborates with researchers and control room operators.

This onsite position requires a BS in Physics or engineering, at least three years in particle or radiation physics, and flexibility to work evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• BS in Physics or related field required.
• Minimum three years' experience in particle, nuclear, or radiation physics.
• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings or weekends as needed.
• Experience with accelerator operations or detector development preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare beam for experiments with Ion Source and MCR Operators, tune/shape beam, archive and calibrate beam.
• Deliver exposures and distribute run summaries to researchers.
• Daily recordkeeping of NSRL activities for NASA.
• Assist researchers in setting up and running equipment during exposure times.
• Develop technical and research projects for NSRL.
• Maintain equipment used to monitor and control the beam.
• Communicate with MCR and Ion Source Operators regarding accelerator performance.
• Respond to alarms or incidents per SOPs.
• Identify hazards and implement controls to minimize risks.
