Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) has an opening for a NSRL staff member to join the team at the NSRL facility. The role involves liaison with researchers and main control room operators for preparation and execution of experiments, and maintenance of beam-monitoring equipment.

Flexible scheduling including evenings and occasional weekends is required; the position is fully onsite at BNL in Upton, NY. The salary range is $80,600–$91,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, Engineering or a related field.
• At least three years' relevant experience in particle physics, nuclear physics or radiation physics.
• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
• Computing proficiency to include Excel spreadsheets.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, evenings, or weekends as business needs require, while typically maintaining a five-day workweek.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare beam for experiments with Ion Source and MCR; tune, shape, archive, and calibrate beam.
• Deliver exposures and distribute run summaries to researchers.
• Daily recordkeeping of NSRL activities for NASA.
• Assist researchers in setting up and running equipment throughout the exposure time.
• Develop technical and research projects for NSRL.
• Maintenance of equipment used to monitor and control the beam.
• Communicate with MCR Operators and Ion Source Operators regarding accelerator performance.
• Respond to emergency situations, alarms, or occurrences per SOP.
• Identify hazards, environmental concerns and unsafe conditions or practices and implement or suggest controls to minimize risks.
