Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks a staff member for the NASA Space Radiation Laboratory (NSRL) to support beam preparation, operation, and experiments. You will work with researchers and control room operators to ensure accurate exposures and run summaries, while maintaining equipment and safety procedures.

The role requires a science degree, 3+ years in physics or radiation physics, strong communication, and flexibility for evenings or weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering or related field.
• At least three years of experience in particle physics, nuclear physics or radiation physics.
• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
• Computing proficiency including Excel spreadsheets.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings/weekends.

Responsibilities

• Prepare beam for experiments with ion source and MCR operators; tune and calibrate.
• Deliver exposures and distribute run summaries to researchers.
• Maintain daily records of NSRL activities for NASA.
• Assist researchers in setting up and running equipment.
• Develop technical and research projects for NSRL.
• Maintain equipment used to monitor and control the beam.
• Communicate with MCR and ion source operators regarding accelerator performance.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies per SOP.
• Identify hazards and implement safety controls.
