Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures space-grade systems worldwide. An Associate Program Manager will help advance innovative space programs, coordinating cross-functional teams and managing risks from cubesats to large constellation projects.

You will support program milestones, ensure on-time delivery, and communicate status to leadership in a fast-paced environment. Strong collaboration and problem-solving are essential.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD in engineering, science or a related technical field with nine or more years of program administration experience.
  • Experience managing electronics development programs and IRAD projects.
  • Experience with space programs or satellite missions.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics.
  • Results-oriented with focus on program success and long-term goals.
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced environment and changing priorities.
  • Strong command of program management principles: planning, scheduling, coordinating workloads.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills for interface with departments and government reps.
  • PMI- PMP certification or similar is a plus.
  • Customer-focused, able to work independently or in a team; able to travel and extend hours.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Program Management: Support medium-to-large space programs from initiation through completion.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build relationships with executives and cross-functional teams for alignment.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate teams across engineering, procurement, security, and operations.
  • Subcontractor Management: Create SOWs and POs; PMO interface with Subcontract Management.
  • Risk Management: Identify and address risks; escalate to keep programs on track.
  • Project Planning & Scheduling: Develop detailed plans and allocate resources.
  • Budget Oversight: Monitor budgets and expenditures while maintaining quality.
  • Reporting & Communication: Provide updates to senior management with program reports.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive process improvements in program management.
  • Technical Issue Resolution: Resolve scheduling and technical issues related to space missions.
  • Talent Development: Plan and develop management, professional, and technical talent.
  • Leadership in Risk Solutions: Develop and implement effective risk solutions.
