Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) seeks a Space Electrical Chief Engineer to lead design, integration, and verification of spaceborne electrical and avionics systems. You will define system-level requirements, guide multidisciplinary teams, and ensure design integrity through all lifecycle phases.

You will interface with customers and leadership to achieve mission objectives, manage architecture, and supervise reviews and test strategies across programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in engineering with extensive space electrical experience.
  • Experience leading spacecraft electrical or avionics system design, including power and data architectures.
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, avionics, data handling, and radiation effects.
  • Experience with government/commercial space customers and design reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead and chief engineer for spacecraft electrical and avionics systems on assigned programs, from concept through launch and on-orbit operations.
  • Define and own the spacecraft electrical architecture, including power, energy storage, and harnessing.
  • Lead and review system and subsystem requirements for traceability to mission objectives.
  • Provide direction to electrical, power, avionics, FPGA/ASIC, and harness design teams; approve key artifacts and test plans.
  • Lead trade studies to optimize performance, cost, schedule and risk.
  • Oversee ICDs, electrical schematics, block diagrams and power budgets for consistency across docs.
  • Lead design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, FRR) and present technical material to management and customers.
  • Guide I&T strategies including HIL, environmental testing, and system verification/validation.
  • Support anomaly resolution and root-cause analysis during integration and on-orbit operations.
  • Collaborate with systems engineering, mechanical, software, RF, GNC and mission assurance teams.
