Job summary

Trident Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineering Manager in Fairfax/Sterling, VA to lead a team delivering high-reliability space electronics and embedded processing. The role combines technical leadership with people and project management to execute current programs and build future capabilities.

The ideal candidate has a strong board-level design background (digital, mixed-signal, power) and aerospace experience, with a track record of leading complex hardware from concept to production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 9+ years of experience in electrical/electronic hardware design and development OR 7+ years with a graduate degree.
  • Experience leading or owning complex board level designs from concept through schematic, PCB layout oversight, bring up, and verification.
  • Experience with high-speed digital, mixed signal, or power electronics design (e.g., processors, FPGAs, DDR, PCIe, Ethernet, DC/DC conversion, PoL regulation).
  • Hands on experience with lab debug and characterization using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, and related instrumentation.
  • Prior experience providing technical direction or leading small engineering teams or projects.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain technical decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for the electrical engineering discipline across multiple projects.
  • Oversee architecture, design, analysis, and verification of complex electronic hardware, including processor/FPGA-based boards, power electronics, mixed signal interfaces, and supporting circuitry.
  • Ensure rigorous engineering practices, including requirements definition, design analysis, design reviews, and thorough documentation.
  • Review and approve key technical artifacts such as schematics, PCB layouts, analysis reports, and test procedures.
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for hardware issues discovered during integration, environmental testing, and production.
  • Manage a team of electrical engineers, including performance management, goal setting, coaching, and career development.
  • Identify training, mentoring, and cross-training opportunities to strengthen capabilities and depth.
  • Support succession planning and talent development to ensure continuity of critical skills.
  • Foster a collaborative, transparent, and accountable team culture aligned with Trident's values.
  • Plan and allocate electrical engineering resources across programs to meet scope, schedule, and budget commitments.
  • Collaborate with program managers, systems engineers, and other leads to develop realistic plans and estimates.
  • Monitor progress and resolve risks.
  • Coordinate priorities across projects for near-term and long-term needs.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering processes, standards, and configuration management.
  • Lead or participate in design and peer reviews to drive quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Promote data-driven decision making and continuous improvement.
  • Work with mechanical, FPGA, software, systems, test, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure integrated, producible hardware solutions.
  • Support business development by contributing to technical proposals and customer presentations.
  • Serve as SME in customer and supplier interactions, design reviews, and technical interchange meetings.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing for DFM, DFT, and transition to production.
