Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, is seeking an engineer to design, analyze, test and deploy advanced electrical and embedded systems for national defense and NASA initiatives.

You will work with experienced engineers, own integration and testing of systems, and contribute to critical mission platforms. The role requires a bachelor’s in electrical/computer engineering, 2+ years’ experience, and the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in electrical or computer engineering.
  • Experience designing or prototyping electronic circuitry employing microcontrollers, FPGAs, DSPs, sensors, or power electronics.
  • Programming in C, C++, Python or similar languages.
  • Experience with electronic design tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence and simulation tools such as SPICE or MATLAB/Simulink.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mixed-signal electronic systems including power electronics, embedded firmware, FPGA interfaces, sensor electronics, motor control, communications hardware, and custom PCBs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members to capture requirements, design circuits, select components, and validate designs through modeling and simulation.
  • Showcase work at design reviews and produce documentation for communication, fabrication and operation of designs.
  • Own the integration, test, and deployment of electrical systems into larger mission-critical platforms.
  • Contribute to technologies enabling spacecraft, autonomous systems, sensing, hypersonics, cyber systems, and national security missions.
