Job summary

Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) invites new engineers to join a collaborative team that tackles national defense challenges. Qualifications

• Earned or will earn a Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with software development in C++, Python, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Interest in learning from military operators and understanding mission needs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain software for advanced mission planning and decision-support applications.
• Apply software engineering, systems engineering, modeling and simulation, data analysis, or AI techniques to solve operational challenges.
• Develop and evaluate algorithms that improve mission planning and resource allocation.
• Build secure software using DevSecOps practices, automated testing, and containerized environments.
• Conduct engineering studies that evaluate capabilities and limitations of defense systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to transition research into operational capabilities.
• Learn from experienced mentors from day one and engage with military operators to translate user needs into solutions.
