Join to apply for the Sous Chef - Northern Virginia role at Tatte Bakery & Cafe

We are seeking a Sous Chef to assist in opening our Falls Church & Fairfax cafes! As a Sous Chef, you will oversee all kitchen operations at your café, responsible for the success and growth of your kitchen team. The role may supervise up to 25 employees, including Zone Leaders, Cooks, Prep Cooks, and Dishwashers. A passion for scratch-made food and genuine hospitality is essential. The Sous Chef is responsible for executing kitchen operations in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, especially in the absence of the head chef.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee production and service according to established guidelines
  • Adhere to recipes, portioning, and presentation standards
  • Complete daily management tasks promptly
  • Develop a strong understanding of the menu through daily tasting
  • Coach staff on food prep, safety, and sanitation standards
  • Maintain cleaning and maintenance schedules
  • Manage inventory within guidelines, ensuring product availability
  • Assist with seasonal menu changes
Working Conditions
  • Flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work 10+ hour shifts and stand/walk for extended periods
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Position Requirements
  • At least three years of culinary/kitchen management experience in high-volume settings
  • Strong knowledge of food and culinary excellence
  • Understanding of quality, presentation, safety, sanitation, and food costs
  • Proficiency with Tatte’s systems and processes
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Skills
  • Degree or certification in Culinary Arts
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience with systems like UltiPro, Toast, CrunchTime, Teamworx
  • Certifications such as ServSafe, Allergen, Chokesaver
