Salary:$50,000 to $55,000/ year

As aSous Chef with FISD at Charlotte Latin School in Charlotte, NC, you’ll play a vital role in crafting exceptional dining experiences for students, faculty, and staff. Working closely with the Executive Chef, you’ll help lead food preparation, menu execution, and kitchen operations—bringing creativity, precision, and passion to every dish.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear, detailed prep and production sheets to guide the kitchen team
  • Ensure product availability and readiness for efficient daily service
  • Maintain accurate temperature logs (HACCP and written)
  • Taste and evaluate menu items with the team to ensure quality and consistency
  • Coach team members on proper rotation, labeling, and storage procedures
  • Minimize food waste while maintaining forecasted food costs
  • Assign and enforce daily cleaning schedules for all kitchen staff
  • Rotate through stations during service and ensure team coverage while maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked service areas
  • Monitor labor and ensure alignment with labor forecasts
  • Ensure timely ordering following Company purchasing protocols
  • Review production lists and daily needs with the Executive Chef and kitchen team
  • Ensure all food served is fresh, abundant, and of high quality
  • Execute HACCP and safety protocols consistently
  • Support catering and concession execution as directed
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned, stored, and properly maintained at the end of each shift
  • End each day by checking out with both the Director and Executive Chef

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of kitchen or culinary leadership experience
  • Strong background in high-volume food production and catering
  • Familiarity with K–12 dining or independent school settings is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and ServSafe requirements
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital kitchen systems
  • ServSafe certification preferred
