Talen Energy is seeking a Sourcing Analyst/Agent to drive strategic sourcing, negotiate contracts, and manage the procurement lifecycle from needs definition through contract administration.

The role emphasizes market and financial analysis, supplier evaluation, and building strong internal and external partnerships in a leading North American energy company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or HS Diploma with 4 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Sourcing Agent: Bachelor's Degree or HS Diploma with 5–7 years of materials/services buying experience.
  • At least 2–4 years of direct buying experience.
  • Senior Sourcing Agent: Bachelor's Degree and 5–7 years of materials or services buying experience.
  • Basic knowledge of business law, commercial terms and related legal issues.

Responsibilities

  • Developing negotiation strategies and company positions with counsel to protect commercial interests.
  • Performing market and financial analyses to assess supplier risk.
  • Analyzing claims and disputes and advising senior Sourcing management.
  • Managing procurement from need definition to contract administration.
  • Evaluating supplier sources and pricing methodologies for optimal savings.
  • Using strategic sourcing methods to obtain products and services.

Job description

The Sourcing Team at Talen Energy secures the materials and services the organization needs by managing suppliers, negotiating value, and ensuring reliable, cost-effective procurement. The team partners across departments to support operational goals, reduce risk, and strengthen long-term supply performance.

At Talen Energy, your work fuels progress. In this role, you’ll do more than contribute you’ll drive meaningful change by:

  • Developing negotiation strategies and company positions, working with Office of General Counsel to identify and incorporate appropriate levels of commercial protection and conduct negotiations to achieve the optimal business results for the company.
  • Performing market analysis and financial analysis to determine business risk associated with a supplier or contract.
  • Analyzing and developing company position on claims and disputes and subsequently consulting with senior Sourcing management to resolve/negotiate claims and disputes associated with procurements.
  • Managing the procurement process from specification/definition of need through contract administration.
  • Evaluating sources of supply and develop optimal pricing methodology and warranty protection.
  • Utilizing the most strategic sourcing method (alliance, auction, blanket, contract, master service agreement, purchase order) to acquire the necessary products and services at the maximum level of savings.
  • Identifying new sources of supply, and potentially acceptable new products/technologies.
  • Establish/maintain professional relationships with suppliers/partners, based on the highest ethical business practices as set forth in the Code of Business Ethics and Supply Chain Polices.
  • Providing outage and work management support for power plant material requirements.
What You Have Minimum Requirements
  • Sourcing Analyst Level: Bachelor's Degree; or HS Diploma and 4 years' equivalent work experience.
  • Sourcing Agent Level: Bachelor's Degree; or High School Diploma with 5 to 7 years of equivalent work experience.
  • At least 2-4 years' of direct buying experience.
  • Senior Sourcing Agent Level: Bachelor's Degree and 5 to 7 of materials or services buying experience.
  • Basic knowledge of business law, commercial terms and conditions, and related legal issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in Electric Utility buying (Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Substation).
  • Background in Lean and/or Six Sigma.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and databases.
  • Negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-assessment and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong customer service focus, with ability to build credibility with internal clients and external suppliers.
