Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or a related field
  • A minimum of one year of related experience in a student affairs staff position or two years of experience in a graduate assistantship
  • Familiarity with Sorority and Fraternity Life in higher ed settings
  • Demonstrated experience advising students/student organizations, planning and implementing programs and events, interpreting and applying policies
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Strong oral and written communication and facilitation skills

The Sorority & Fraternity Life ( SFL ) Coordinator plays a key role in fostering, supporting, leading, and advancing the sorority and fraternity community at Marquette. This role is responsible for advising students, student organizations, councils, and sorority/fraternity chapters, serving as a university liaison. The Coordinator develops and implements programming initiatives, ensuring positive impacts on the student experience and alignment with Marquette's mission and Jesuit values.

Duties and Responsibilities

Advising & Support: Advises all councils represented at Marquette University, including but not limited to Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Association, National Pan-Hellenic Association, and Multicultural Greek Council. Provides chapter coaching to their affiliated chapters. Coordinates and supports membership intake efforts of the Sorority & Fraternity community. Supports the development and execution of departmental workshops, retreats, and leadership programs for chapter and council leadership as well as general membership. Stays informed on current legislation, university policies, and national best practices that impact sorority and fraternity operations.

Programming & Engagement: Collaborates with staff of the Office of Student Engagement to develop and implement student learning initiatives and programming to promote well-being, belonging, and leadership in the sorority and fraternity community. Programming efforts target leadership development, scholarship, service, membership development, risk management/reduction, bystander intervention, hazing prevention, and crisis management. These efforts are in coordination with university departments and internal/external experts. Review and approve new member education programs to ensure alignment with organizational values, risk management expectations, and educational best practices. Responsible for related financial/budgetary components of event planning.

Technology & Operations: Manage all software used to support fraternity and sorority operations and recruitment. Maintain accurate records and data pertaining to all sorority and fraternity life activities, including rosters, recruitment lists, grades, other campus involvement, retention date, etc. Collaborate with the Office of Student Engagement team to ensure compliance with Student Organization Policy, event registration, and organization registration and renewal.

Communication & Assessment: Engage in ongoing strategic planning efforts by setting measurable goals, identifying emerging needs, and developing long-term objectives that strengthen the SFL community. Generate reports detailing community efforts, strategic initiatives, assessments of student learning outcomes, academic performance, recruitment, and the membership experience. Maintain direct communication with all Inter/National Headquarters and Executive Offices for all active charter chapters and councils, as well as those who are interested or have been invited to establish. Implement tactics that support sorority and fraternity members in articulating the value of their membership and leadership roles. Represent and share the SFL community story and perspective to campus and off-campus stakeholders.

Supervision & Management: Responsible for the supervision of graduate and undergraduate student employees which includes but is not limited to hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student’s assignment, etc. Lead student workers ensuring alignment with office, divisional, and university priorities. Provide ongoing supervision, management, and performance evaluation for student staff, fostering their leadership growth and continuous improvement.

Operations: Supports the functions of the Office of Student Engagement Services. Participate in Division of Belonging and Student Affairs committees, activities and programs. Assist the office in maintaining a strong presence and holistic student support across Marquette University. Partner with university departments to expand and enhance the sorority and fraternity of life experience. Serve as a university conduct administrator as needed and support conflict resolution efforts.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or a related field
  • A minimum of one year of related experience in a student affairs staff position or two years of experience in a graduate assistantship.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or a related field
  • Three years of experience in sorority and fraternity life, student life or a student affairs role
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Commitment to, knowledge of, and experience working with college students from historically underrepresented/marginalized backgrounds.
  • Membership in a nationally recognized fraternity or sorority.
