Job summary

Inova Loudoun Hospital is seeking a dedicated Diagnostic Imaging Sonographer to join our team on a PRN, varied shift schedule. The role emphasizes patient communication, safety, and high-quality ultrasound services within a leading health system in Northern Virginia.

The successful candidate will have graduation from an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program, registry eligibility with ARRT/ARDMS/RVT and BLS certification, plus recent hospital-based experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• ARRT, ARDMS, RDMS or RVT registry eligible. Must obtain certification within 18 months from date of hire.
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association upon start.
• Recent experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a sonographer or sonography student.

Responsibilities

• Provides clinical ultrasound services according to practice standards and supports students/residents to ensure department function.
• Communicates with patients to obtain history and consent to assist physicians in exam performance and interpretation.
• Explains procedures to patients and families to ease anxiety and ensure cooperation.
• Completes ancillary tasks to support efficient and consistent department operations.
• Maintains safety for patients, staff, and self per department protocols and guidelines.
• Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition.
• Assists physicians in performing examinations using standard protocols, isolation precautions and sterile technique.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Education

Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography

ARRT, ARDMS, RDMS or RVT registry eligible; must obtain certification within 18 months from date of hire

Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association

Recent hospital/healthcare experience as a sonographer or sonography student

Sonographer Job Responsibilities:

• The Sonographer provides clinical services according to ultrasound practice standards and acts as a resource to students, residents, fellows and other technologists to ensure optimal department functions.
• Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patients or patients' charts to assist physicians in optimizing the performance and interpretation of examinations.
• Explains procedures to patients/families and answers questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.
• Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations.
• Demonstrates safety for patients, staff, and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition.
• Assists physicians in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions and/or sterile technique.
• May perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education:Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• License:ARRT, ARDMS, RDMS or RVT registry eligible. Must be registry eligible and obtain certification within 18 months from date of hire.
• Certification:Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association upon start
• Experience:Recent experience in a hospital/healthcare environment as a sonographer or sonography student.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience as a Sonographer in a hospital/healthcare environment, preferred.
