Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and verbally communicate in English and a second language.
• Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must attend annual interpreter training provided by health office.
• Attention to detail for accurate translation.
• Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Basic computer and phone skills required.
• Ability to prepare professional reports and correspondence.
• Ability to respond to inquiries from patients, employees, and regulators.
• Ability to communicate with diverse backgrounds.
• Must be 19 years or older.

Responsibilities

• Provide language services to patients with limited English proficiency and facilitate communication with healthcare providers.
• Edit and proofread discharge information to reflect accurate language.
• Relay concepts between languages.
• Translate written materials into target language (brochures, web pages, etc.).
• Create new text in the target language that reflects organization content and style.
• Submit translated material electronically (emails, faxes).
• Use dictionaries and glossaries for reference in translations.
• Interpret/train language at meetings as necessary.
• Regular attendance at assigned work location per schedule.
• On-call availability as required by department needs.
• Ensure patient safety and infection control guidelines are followed.
