Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in application engineering, software architecture, technology consulting, solution architecture, or IT services.
• 5+ years in senior presales, solutions, consulting, principal, or client-facing architecture role.
• Experience delivering estimates, staffing models, delivery approaches, transition plans, pricing assumptions, proposals, and SOWs.
• Knowledge of at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

Solutions Principal – Application Engineering & Digital Solutions

Location: Remote – United States

Salary: $160,000–$250,000, depending on experience and location

Role Overview

We are seeking a Solutions Principal – Application Engineering & Digital Solutions to lead presales and solution development across our IT services portfolio.

This role will serve as the primary solutions leader for Application Engineering, while supporting broader opportunities across cloud, data & AI, automation, quality engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and managed services.

You will lead opportunities throughout the full lifecycle—from discovery and solution architecture through estimation, pricing, proposals, client presentations, negotiations, and transition to delivery.

Success in this role means developing technically strong, commercially competitive, and operationally executable solutions that help win profitable business and can be successfully delivered.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with sales to qualify opportunities, understand client needs, and develop pursuit and solution strategies.
• Lead discovery sessions with business, technology, procurement, and operational stakeholders.
• Translate complex or incomplete requirements into clear solution architectures, delivery models, and measurable outcomes.
• Lead technical solutioning for RFIs, RFPs, proposals, workshops, presentations, and finalist discussions.

Application Engineering

• Lead solutions across application modernization, custom software development, product engineering, and managed application services.
• Design solutions involving cloud-native applications, APIs, microservices, web/mobile platforms, integration, DevSecOps, platform engineering, and CI/CD.
• Develop modernization strategies including rehosting, re-platforming, refactoring, rebuilding, retirement, and replacement.
• Incorporate quality engineering, test automation, security, observability, resilience, and AI-assisted software engineering into solution designs.
• Support solutions across cloud/infrastructure, data & AI, automation, quality engineering, cybersecurity, digital workplace, service management, and managed services.
• Integrate multiple technologies, delivery locations, partners, and service towers into cohesive end-to-end solutions.
• Engage subject-matter experts when needed and ensure solutions are scalable, secure, supportable, compliant, and operationally viable.
• Identify technical, operational, commercial, transition, and delivery risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Lead effort estimation, staffing models, delivery-location strategies, transition planning, and cost models.
• Develop pricing approaches including T&M, fixed-price, managed-service, consumption-based, and outcome-oriented models.
• Define staffing, skills, ramp plans, productivity assumptions, governance, SLAs, KPIs, and acceptance criteria.
• Partner with sales, finance, delivery, recruiting, legal, and leadership to validate assumptions, margins, risks, and contractual feasibility.

Proposals & Client Presentations

• Develop compelling proposals connecting client needs with solution architecture, delivery approach, commercials, and measurable value.
• Lead solution content for proposals, SOWs, workshops, and executive presentations.
• Present and defend solutions to executives, architects, engineering leaders, procurement teams, and other stakeholders.
• Ensure commitments are realistic and aligned with the proposed delivery model.

Offering Development & Delivery Alignment

• Turn repeatable client needs into productized offerings, assessments, workshops, accelerators, pilots, and managed services.
• Develop reusable solution blueprints, reference architectures, estimation tools, pricing models, and delivery playbooks.
• Partner with sales, delivery, practice, alliance, and marketing teams on positioning and go-to-market strategies.
• Stay current on application engineering, cloud, AI, automation, and managed-services trends.
• Partner with delivery teams to ensure solution feasibility, staffing readiness, governance, transition planning, and successful presales-to-delivery handoffs.

Leadership

• Operate as a hands‑on senior contributor supporting high-priority opportunities across technology domains.
• Mentor Solutions Architects and other team members in discovery, solution design, estimation, proposals, and client presentations.
• Lead cross-functional teams and help improve solution processes, tools, reusable assets, and governance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in application engineering, software architecture, technology consulting, solution architecture, or IT services.
• 5+ years in a senior presales, solutions, consulting, principal, or client‑facing architecture role.
• Strong expertise in application modernization, cloud-native development, software delivery, DevSecOps, APIs/integration, quality engineering, and application managed services.
• Ability to solution beyond a primary specialty and integrate multiple technology/service domains.
• Experience developing estimates, staffing models, delivery approaches, transition plans, pricing assumptions, proposals, and SOWs.
• Strong knowledge of at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with onshore, nearshore, offshore, and blended global delivery models.
• Strong executive communication, facilitation, presentation, writing, and client‑advisory skills.
• Ability to balance technical quality, commercial competitiveness, delivery feasibility, risk, and client value.
• Comfortable managing multiple concurrent pursuits in a fast‑paced environment.
• Willingness to travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience solutioning managed services, application support/maintenance, product engineering, quality engineering, or digital transformation programs.
• Experience with AI-assisted software development, generative AI, intelligent automation, or agentic solutions.
• Familiarity with enterprise architecture, security, data platforms, infrastructure, and IT service management.
• Experience responding to complex enterprise RFIs/RFPs and competitive finalist presentations.
• Relevant cloud, architecture, Agile, DevOps, security, or service‑management certifications.
• Experience developing productized services, reusable accelerators, or go‑to‑market offerings.
