Motion is seeking a Solutions Engineer, Critical Monitoring in Columbus, OH. The role leads technical aspects from first conversation through sale, tailoring Motion’s critical monitoring portfolio to client outcomes and turning requirements into scoped delivery.
The position requires hyperscale construction experience, travel to active sites, and collaboration with executives. You will design sensing, placement, connectivity, and reporting across environments and support handoff to delivery.
The Solutions Engineer, Critical Monitoring, is the technical lead on Motion opportunities from first conversation through sale. Motion delivers critical monitoring as a service for hyperscale data centers, from active construction through turnover and into live operating spaces. In this role, you learn what a client needs to protect and why, map Motion’s portfolio of offerings to the outcomes they are accountable for, and turn that into a scope delivery can deliver against. This is a dynamic role for a problem solver with hyperscale construction experience who is as comfortable on an active job site or in a live data hall as in front of an executive.
Lead technical discovery with owners, general contractors and trade partners to understand the risks they manage and the outcomes they are measured on.
Determine what needs to be monitored, where and why, from equipment protection and contamination control during construction to air quality and uptime in active spaces.
Walk active construction sites and operating facilities, and review drawings, equipment schedules and submials so every recommendation reflects what is actually there.
Map Motion’s portfolio, including critical monitoring, indoor air quality, active space monitoring and managed services, to each client’s outcomes and recommend the right combination.
Define sensing, placement, connectivity and reporting for each environment, and adapt the design as a site moves through construction phases and into operation.
Write clear scopes of work with inclusions, exclusions, assumptions and acceptance criteria, so every project starts from an agreed baseline.
Provide Finance with bills of materials and cost inputs so pricing reflects the full solution.
Present Motion’s platform and approach to technical and executive audiences, and run demos, pilots and proofs of concept.
Own the technical content of proposals, RFIs, RFPs, and security and network reviews.
Confirm technical and commercial alignment internally before any quote is released.
Transition each sold project to delivery with a complete scope and design, and stay engaged through kicko.
Manage changes after NTP through a formal change process.
Build reusable scoping templates and reference designs that scale across clients and facility types.
Bring client needs and field lessons back to Product and Engineering to shape new offerings.
Experience: 5+ years in solutions engineering, sales engineering or applications engineering, with meaningful time on active hyperscale or mission critical construction sites.
Understands how data centers are built and operated, how owners, general contractors and trade partners work together, and how construction documents and submittals drive decisions.

Working knowledge of environmental sensing, wireless and site networking (e.g., LoRaWAN, Wi-Fi, cellular), and mechanical and electrical systems in critical facilities.

Play a pivotal role in shaping the strategy, execution process, and eiciency for a hypergrowth company.
Influence the future of the data center industry through innovative technology.
Work with a high-performing executive team commied to impact, transparency, and excellence.
