Job summary

Maersk is seeking a Solution Design Manager to own end-to-end solution design for specialized LTL opportunities, from requirements intake to BRD delivery. You will work with commercial and pricing to ensure solution criteria are defined before pricing and capture the full solution at handover to implementation.

This senior individual contributor role spans both operational CX dimensions and technical integration.

Qualifications

  • Senior individual contributor responsible for developing fully scoped, operationally validated, and technically feasible solutions for specialized LTL opportunities across the lead-to-agreement process.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end solution design for specialized LTL opportunities — from initial requirements intake through delivery of a complete BRD.
  • Translate customer requirements, RFP specifications, and commercial objectives into structured, fully defined solution packages that capture operational flows, service levels, CX touchpoints, exception handling, and technical integration requirements.
  • Partner with commercial and pricing teams to ensure criteria are defined before pricing and captured in a BRD prior to implementation handoff.
  • Assess third-party integration requirements as a core component of solution design and elevate risks to be resolved before deals advance.
  • Validate operational capability and capacity as input to every design and surface gaps for cross-functional resolution.
  • Lead implementation handover, serving as the primary explainer to the implementation team and stakeholders.
  • Develop scalable solution design tools, templates, and SOPs to improve consistency and reduce cycle time.
  • Support expansion into more complex Maersk products by understanding adjacent capabilities and integration needs.
  • Define the CX layer of complex solutions with specific, feasible commitments aligned to the operating model.
  • Provide structured product feedback to leadership based on recurring patterns or unmet requirements.

Job description

The Solution Design Manager serves as MGF’s dedicated solution design practitioner, responsible for developing fully scoped, operationally validated, and technically feasible solutions for specialized LTL opportunities across the lead-to-agreement process. This is a senior individual contributor role that operates as a critical partner to commercial and pricing teams — ensuring that key solution criteria are defined before the first phase of pricing is complete, and that a full Business Requirements Document (BRD) is in place before any opportunity moves into implementation. In recognition that MGF’s lead-to-agreement process is still maturing, solution design and pricing often run in parallel rather than sequentially. The Solution Design Manager is expected to work fluidly within this reality — prioritizing the right inputs at the right stages, flagging risks proactively, and avoiding becoming a bottleneck while still ensuring quality does not erode as deals move quickly. The role is solution-design agnostic by design, meaning the Solution Design Manager is expected to work across both the operational/CX dimensions of solution design (service level structure, exception handling, customer experience workflows) and the technical dimensions (third-party integration requirements, data exchange specifications, system capability assessment). Individual practitioners may bring deeper expertise in one area, but the role is defined to cover the full solution design scope. In addition to supporting active deals, the Solution Design Manager plays a key role at the handover from commercial to implementation — leading the transition alongside the commercial owner and serving as the person best positioned to explain the full solution to the implementation team, operations, CX, and any other downstream stakeholders. Beyond deal support, this role actively contributes to MGF’s scalable solution design capability by developing templates, frameworks, and documentation standards that enable consistent, repeatable execution as the business grows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own end-to-end solution design for specialized LTL opportunities — including white glove, threshold delivery, pool point programs, and other complex or differentiated service structures — from initial requirements intake through delivery of a complete Business Requirements Document (BRD)
  • Translate customer requirements, RFP specifications, and commercial objectives into structured, fully defined solution packages that capture operational flows, service level parameters, CX touchpoints, exception handling protocols, and technical integration requirements
  • Partner with commercial and pricing teams across a parallel, iterative deal process: ensure key solution criteria are defined and documented before the first phase of pricing is complete, and that the full solution is captured in a BRD prior to implementation handoff
  • Assess third-party integration requirements as a core component of solution design — evaluating data exchange compatibility, technical feasibility, and partner readiness — and elevate risks or open questions proactively so they can be resolved or consciously accepted before deals advance
  • Validate operational capability and capacity — including network, service center, carrier, and staffing availability — as a required input to every solution design; surface gaps and coordinate cross-functionally to resolve or flag them before they become post-commitment surprises
  • Lead the implementation handover alongside the commercial owner, serving as the primary solution explainer to the implementation team, operations, and all downstream stakeholders — ensuring continuity between what was designed and what gets executed
  • Develop and maintain scalable solution design tools including solution templates, capability assessment checklists, pricing intake review procedures, and BRD documentation standards that improve consistency and reduce cycle time
  • Support MGF’s expansion into more complex, multi-Maersk-product solution design by building familiarity with the capabilities, constraints, and integration requirements of adjacent Maersk products
  • Define the CX layer of complex solutions — including customer-facing service level structures, communication protocols, escalation paths, and exception workflows — ensuring CX commitments are specific, feasible, and aligned with MGF’s operational model
  • Contribute structured, actionable product feedback to product and commercial leadership based on recurring patterns, capability gaps, or unmet customer requirements identified through solution design work
Performance Metrics
  • Solution quality and completeness: solutions documented in the BRD are fully scoped and operationally validated before implementation begins — measured by the absence of material rework or post-handoff discoveries attributable to gaps in the solution design process
  • Stage criteria adherence: key solution criteria are documented and available to the pricing team before the first phase of pricing is complete, and the full BRD is finalized before implementation handoff — with any exceptions proactively flagged and documented
  • Proactive risk management: integration risks, capability gaps, and open technical questions are surfaced early in the deal cycle and tracked to resolution or conscious acceptance; the role is accountable for the quality of the risk identification process, not for outcomes that result from gaps outside its control or decisions made above it
  • Implementation handover effectiveness: the implementation team, operations, and downstream stakeholders receive a clear, complete solution briefing at handover — measured by the absence of re-clarification loops or handover-stage rework attributable to solution communication gaps
  • Documentation quality: solution templates, BRD frameworks, capability assessment tools, and SOPs are kept current and consistently applied, enabling scalable execution as deal volume and complexity grow
