Job summary

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) in Madison, AL is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 1 for an on-site role. You will design, model, and validate parts and assemblies using SOLIDWORKS, including sheet metal and weldments, supporting testing and customer demonstrations.

You will generate high-quality models, apply manufacturing knowledge to rapid prototypes, and ensure design integrity while meeting deadlines. A background check and SECRET clearance are required, and US citizenship is mandatory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent, or HS diploma with 10+ years in mechanical design DoW manufacturing.
• Experience with SOLIDWORKS CAD software and creating mechanical drawings.
• Ability to design and prototype build support for testing and customer demonstration.
• Demonstrated advanced skills with solid modeling.
• Experience with developing and preparing technical data packages.
• Knowledge of ASME specifications and Product Data Management (PDM).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Design, model, and validate parts and assemblies using SOLIDWORKS, including sheet metal, weldments, and drawings.
• Generate complex models from sketches and concept designs.
• Apply manufacturing process knowledge to rapid prototypes.
• Evaluate and modify designs to meet requirements and prevent malfunctions.
• Prepare cost estimates for projects or equipment.
• Provide technical guidance and briefings to staff and leadership.
