Job summary

Applied Research Associates (ARA) is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 1 for on-site work at our Madison, AL location. You will design, model and validate parts and assemblies using SOLIDWORKS, including sheet metal and weldments, and support testing and customer demonstrations.

The role requires US citizenship, ability to obtain a SECRET clearance, and proficiency in SOLIDWORKS with broad manufacturing knowledge. You will provide technical guidance and work independently under general direction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent with 2+ years of mechanical design experience.
• Solid modeling and SOLIDWORKS CAD proficiency required.
• Experience with engineering design and prototype build support.
• Ability to create mechanical drawings using SOLIDWORKS.
• Knowledge of ASME specs and Product Data Management (PDM).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and wear PPE.

Responsibilities

• Design, model, and validate parts and assemblies using SOLIDWORKS.
• Create high-quality models from sketches and concept designs.
• Influence mechanical design with manufacturing process knowledge.
• Prepare cost estimates for projects or equipment pieces.
• Provide guidance and briefings to staff for fabrication drawings.
• Oversee and input to manufacturing teams ensuring quality.
• Assist teams with presentations and demonstrations.
• Manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
