Job summary

Applied Research Associates (ARA) in Madison, AL is seeking a Mechanical Engineer 1 to design, model, and validate parts using SOLIDWORKS for on-site testing and demonstrations. Work includes sheet metal, weldments, simulations, surfaces, and detailed drawings. Must obtain a SECRET clearance and be a US citizen.

You will collaborate with manufacturing teams, prepare cost estimates, provide design guidance, and manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• 2+ years mechanical engineering experience or 10+ years in mechanical design DoW manufacturing with HS diploma.
• Proficient in SOLIDWORKS CAD software for drawings and modeling.
• Experience with solid modeling and technical data packages.

Responsibilities

• Design, model, and validate parts and assemblies using SOLIDWORKS CAD for complex projects.
• Generate high-quality models from sketches and concept designs.
• Apply manufacturing knowledge to improve rapid prototyping.
• Evaluate designs to meet requirements and reduce malfunctions.
• Prepare cost estimates for projects or equipment.
• Provide technical guidance and briefings to teams and leadership.
• Oversee manufacturing input to drawings and fabrication plans.
• Assist teams with presentations and demonstrations.
• Manage multiple assignments and prioritize tasks.
• Apply analytical and evaluative expertise to meet deadlines.
• Develop design approaches with minimal direction.
• Identify and integrate new manufacturing technologies and improvements.
