Under general supervision of the Solid Waste Supervisor, drives and operates a variety of solid waste refuse trucks and equipment for collection, transport, and disposal of Residential, Commercial, and Bulk waste and recyclables. Retrieves and logs completed work orders into a computer database. Provides coverage in the absence of the supervisor. Required to work weekends and holidays, as scheduled.
This position is treated as an FLSA non-exempt and considered a DRIVING position.
Essential Functions:
- Safely and effectively operates a variety of Solid Waste collection trucks and equipment requiring an Arizona Class B Commercial Driver’s License, including Front Load, Automated Side Loader, Roll Off, Rear Loader, Hook Lift, Front End Tractor, and pickup trucks. Separates recyclable from non-recyclable trash and ensures proper disposal according to guidelines.
- Communicates verbally with customers regarding collection concerns, general information, or problems. Informs supervisor daily of work order completion status.
- Inspects vehicles and equipment before and after use, checking for damage, fluid levels, leaks, safety equipment, lights, and tools. Reviews inspection forms and schedules repairs, notifying the supervisor of issues.
- Reviews and suggests improvements to routes to enhance efficiency and customer service. Assists in training staff on safe vehicle and equipment operation.
- Repairs and paints refuse and recycling containers. Replaces damaged containers and delivers new ones to customers.
- Supports community events involving the delivery, setup, and removal of waste containers.
- Ensures safe working practices and adherence to rules.
- Acts as a Supervisor when appointed, in the absence of the permanent Supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or Manager.

Education & Experience:
High school diploma or GED, with two years of experience as a sanitation driver or related field, including knowledge of collection procedures and equipment. Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Class (B) CDL with GVWR over 26,000 pounds.
Additional Information:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience are considered. Enrolled community members who qualify may be considered under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill. Must work evenings, holidays, and weekends. Pre-employment drug, alcohol, and background checks are required.
