Job summary

The City of Goldsboro is seeking a solid waste equipment operator to collect and haul refuse, recycle goods, and debris. You will operate side loaders and grapple trucks and assist ground crews in daily operations.

Requires high school diploma or GED and five years of heavy equipment experience; willingness to work weekends/holidays during recovery efforts and severe weather events is expected.

Qualifications

• High School Graduation or GED equivalent.
• Five years of operating heavy equipment or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

• Operates side loaders and grapple trucks to perform daily responsibilities, but may operate rear loaders, leaf vacuum trucks with trailers, front loaders, road tractors and trailers, and roll-off loaders on occasion.
• Serves as crew leader when ground crew staff are assigned to assist.
• Ensures machinery and equipment are properly maintained; performs daily checks and schedules maintenance and repairs.
• Collects solid waste including refuse, recycled goods, vegetative debris, and bulky items and delivers to disposal facility.
• Performs general labor tasks and uses hand tools for daily duties.
• Assists with on-the-job training for subordinates and peers.
• Cleans and sanitizes equipment and follows safety protocols.
• Works various shifts during holidays or recovery efforts after severe weather or disasters.
• Records and reports ordinance violations and prepares daily logs.
