Job summary

G2 Consulting Group is seeking full-time staff engineers for the geotechnical solar team in our Ann Arbor office. You will perform field testing, lab testing, and report preparation for industrial-scale solar projects, under supervision of a project engineer or project manager.

Key duties include field logging, sample collection, load testing, and soil/thermal analyses. Extensive travel is required; projects vary in frequency and duration, with outdoor work in varying conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, or related degree.
• Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and an excellent driving record.
• Three months to four years of demonstrated experience in construction engineering.
• Strong Microsoft Windows and Office skills.

Responsibilities

Job description

G2 Consulting Group is looking for full-time staff engineers to join our geotechnical solar team in the Ann Arbor office. Staff engineers perform field testing, laboratory testing, and engineering-report preparation related to the development of industrial-scale solar energy projects. All work will be performed under the supervision of a project engineer or project manager.

Principal field duties include soil boring logging, test pit excavation and logging, sample collection, pile installation and load testing, thermal resistivity testing, and electrical resistivity testing. Most work will be performed outdoors at sites across the country. Projects will require the engineer to travel extensively, generally 1 to 3 weeks at a time. Project frequency will vary, but multiple projects may occur consecutively; however, we will attempt to limit. Principal laboratory duties include determination of California Bearing Ratio (CBR), soil thermal resistivity, unconfined compressive strength, dry density, Atterberg limits, organic content, particle-size distribution, and soil classification. Principal report preparation duties include analyzing and interpreting field and laboratory test data, performing complex engineering calculations, and developing recommendations for foundation and roadway design.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, or related degree

• Ability to lift up to 99-lbs (e.g. 11-foot W6x9 steel piles) independently and multiple times daily
• Ability to use hand power tools, saws, drills, and hydraulic equipment
• Ability to work overtime and weekends, and travel (drive or fly) out of town with long overnight stays
• Willingness to work outside in hot and cold weather conditions
• Willingness to independently operate heavy-duty construction equipment (e.g. 30k excavator)
• Willingness to work in difficult terrain, active agricultural fields, cattle pastures, and wooded areas
